Washington State Geocache pipebomb scare.

You would think that the police in a city that is a suburb of Seattle, where Geocaching originated, would know about Geocaching but according to this story I guess not.

According to My Edmond News two fishermen noticed a camouflaged PVS pipe near a public boat ramp and contacted the local police. The police brought in their bomb squad which identified it as a pipe bomb and disposed of it.

The crazy part about this story is the cache owner, Doug Waterman, contacted the police and informed him that it was a geocache. The local bomb squad still insists it is a pipe bomb! Sounds a bit like something Barney Fife would do!

Check out the complete story here!

Translate Cache Macro for GSAK

I found this new Geocaching Swiss Army Knife (GSAK) macro that can be useful for those living in or visiting counties with languages different then their mother language. The macro can be found HERE.

For those of you who do not know what GSAK is CLICK HERE.

This macro will translate choosen cache descriptions from the original language to whatever language you wish. Then you can export the cache from GSAK to your GPS and it will have the description in the language you have choosen.

To run the macro you have to install it into GSAK and follow these steps.

1. Click on the cache you wish to translate.
2. Choose the FROM and TO languages.
3. Choose which options you want to use.
4. Click GET TRANSLATIONS.

At this time it only does one cache at a time.

As you can see in the photo I choose the options to KEEP HTML and UPDATE CACHE FIELDS and to translate from German to English. The translation is not perfect but can make finding the cache easier. If you are not happy with the translation or no longer want it in GSAK you just click the REPLACE ORIGINAL DATA button. Click on the photo to see it full size.

I tested this out on this German geocache. HALLOWEEN

In German the cache description say this:

Danke:)

Bitte Stift mitbringen!

After translation it says:

HALLOWEEN is the first cache of Anakin1702, our 10-year Nachwuchscacher, made especially for kids :)
Soon (Ok, now it will take a little), it’s that time again: the ghosts, zombies and monsters come to life
. Now it is time to follow their trail and find their secret hideout. Who made the habitation of spirits down, but must try harder to just before it comes to success :)))

You can park at waypoint. From there you will find the way :) You just have to look for the ghosts and aliens that show you where to go. Best to salvage the final two, do not let the children alone! Slightly firmer gloves are advisable.
Please install the cache again so as he was

In this area, many animals are at home. Horses, donkeys, sheep and of course the game. Behave Please be considerate and makes the cache please only on the day, so they do not scare! Thank you :) Please bring a pen!

Mardi Gras Masquerade Geocoin – Halloween Edition

This Venetian Mask is the Halloween edition and parts of the mask glow! There are quite a few different versions of this Geocoin and each one is very beautiful.

Venetian masks are a centuries-old tradition of Venice, Italy. The masks are typically worn during the Carnevale (Carnival of Venice). They are characterized by their ornate design, featuring bright colors such as gold or silver, and the use of complex decorations in the baroque style.
